# Song Review: Stories of Solitude - "Enemy Within"

North Carolina act **Stories of Solitude** released their latest single "Enemy Within" on December 23rd. The track bursts into action with distant lofi guitars and a dramatic riser that builds anticipation before catapulting into crispy drum tones, explosive growls, and booming guitar chugs. Quickly debuting a sound that is somewhere between death metal and modern deathcore, Stories of Solitude burst into a soaring metalcore-style singing chorus that adds new elements of melody into the mix. 

With a powerful balance of juxtaposition between brutally heavy verses and singing choruses that add variety, Stories of Solitude creates an attractive sound that is both catchy and wildly intense. After the 2nd chorus, "Enemy Within" launches into a chaotic down-tempo breakdown with racing double bass drumming, long silences, and inhuman vocals. In a catchy outro, Stories of Solitude brings back singing, orchestral elements, and bright pads that slowly fade out the track on a harmonic note.
