Ex-MASTODON Guitarist Brent Hinds Dead in Motorcycle Crash at 51
Hinds passed away following a motorcycle accident on Wednesday night.
On Wednesday night around 11PM, Brent Hinds (well known for his time in Mastodon) was killed in an accident on his Harley Davidson when a BMW SUV driver did not yield when entering an intersection in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Fulton County medical examiner’s office confirmed the 51 year old’s death on Wednesday night.
Brent Hinds is known for co-founding Mastadon in 2000 with fellow band members Bill Kelliher (guitar), Troy Sanders (bass), and Brann Dailor (drums).
In a social media post, the band released a statement:
“We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many,” the band said. “Our hearts are with Brent’s family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone’s privacy during this difficult time.”
In March of 2025, in an article from Billboard, Mastodon announced that they had “mutually parted ways” with Brent Hinds, although Hinds later stated that he was kicked out.
Our hearts go out to the band, and Brent Hind’s family.
