The Outlourdes - Media Kit
Heavy misanthropic sludge from Boston, MA.
Bio
Saturated in muck, spellbound by evil, and dripping with groove, The Outlourdes come lurking out of the swamp with their death metal-tinged sludge metal. The Outlourdes blend elements of crust punk and death-doom to form their own unique style of crushing, misanthropic swamp and sludge metal.
Formed in 2018, The Outlourdes have released two full-length albums, You are Not One of Us (2021), and We Live Underground (2022). After some lineup changes, they continued as a three-piece with drummer Deb Dire as lead vocalist, taking their sound in a more crust-influenced direction. Their 2025 record Humanity Is Killing Us All showcases a new era in the band’s sound, highlighting their ability to seamlessly blend diverse influences into each song. Death-doom guitar riffs grind atop thunderous drum rhythms, wailing guitar solos erupt from the bowels of hell. Heavy grooves with a patina of grime reverberate through thick layers of filthy distortion, while fierce guttural growls bellow then turn to shredded, blackened screams. Humanity Is Killing Us All harkens back to influential sludge bands of the 90s, like Dystopia and Eyehategod both sonically and through lyrical themes that depict bleak, misanthropic topics critiquing humans’ abuse of the environment and each other.
“Humanity Is Killing Us All is a sonic journey through layers of anger aimed at the ills of the world characterized by lumbering movements and ferocious screams. The listener will be left in a wake of debris, the psychic annihilation of the earth, torn piece by piece by a physical, or perhaps metaphysical, swamp hag. Misery Swamp is a lurking beast, a mucky dirge – It is the slow devastation taking hold, the weight of the downfall of humanity being televised in real-time through a blanket of fuzz and despairing growls. The eponymous track Humanity Is Killing Us All is one last kerosene blast to the fire. Despite the bleak themes, The Outlourdes have enough B-movie horror influence to sprinkle in some Electric Wizard-esque wah-soaked guitar solos, heavy grooves that beckon neck-breaking headbanging, and a sardonic sense of humor. “We’re fucked,” Deb growls in acceptance of humanity’s demise in the final track of the album. Be sure to catch them live, as their live show is explosive and energetic and cements them as a force to be reckoned with.” -Liz Walshak

“Humanity Is Killing Us All” is a killer album, hard hitting, heavy with intense musicianship and vocals. The sound is solid with the songs literally leaping out of the speakers. “Lastly in this mini segment, we meet The Outlourdes in Boston and their Humanity is Killing Us All full length. This is a noxious mixture of death metal and sludge, overflowing with Hammer horror style samples, slimy rhythms, gruff low-end and high pitch screams. It’s more sludge than death, providing occasional fleeting reminders of Dystopia, but its in the contrast between the two that this works best, particularly on the title track.”- Pete, Nine Hertz Podcast

“We might not have a bayou, but we have the Hockomock swamp which is almost as scary. And that’s where the story of The Outlourdes begins. Dark and aggressive music, brewed in misanthropy and the monsters of southern Massachusetts that I knew nothing about.”-Theo Morgan
