OZZY OSBOURNE the Iconic Metal Frontman Dies at 76
Ozzy Osbourne is known worldwide and has built one of the biggest reputations in music in general—even outside of rock and metal. The legendary “Prince of Darkness” was reported dead today, July 22, just weeks after his final show “Back To The Beginning”.
In a statement via The Guardian, the Osbourne Family says:
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
At this time, the cause of death is not known. Although Osbourne was known to be struggling with Parkinson’s and multiple spine surgeries previously.
Ozzy Osbourne is remembered by his massive impact on the rock and metal scene, helping pioneer early metal music and bring it to a wider audience in Black Sabbath and then later through his solo work. The Prince of Darkness is notorious for antics like biting the head off a bat onstage, his substance abuse that led to him attempting to murder his wife, and his reality TV stardom in the beloved reality show The Osbournes.
Ozzy was in a severe quad biking accident in 2003 where he broke his ribs, neck, and collarbone and reportedly stopped breathing with no pulse for a minute and a half. After being nearly paralyzed from the incident, Osbourne was diagnosed with Parkin Syndrome in 2005.
Then in 2020 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, before having spine surgery in 2022, after issues that were worsened from suffering a fall.
Following his health issues, Osbourne became depressed during his constant treatment. He stated in an interview with The Guardian:
“You wake up the next morning and find that something else has gone wrong. You begin to think this is never going to end,” he said. “Sharon could see that I was in Doom Town, and she says to me, ‘I’ve got an idea.’ It was something to give me a reason to get up in the morning.”
This idea became the Back To The Beginning concert which was held in Birmingham, where Osbourne reunited with Black Sabbath for a final set followed by a solo performance.
