Scarlett Cook - EPK

Bio
Scarlett Cook is a contemporary classical, heavy rock/metal influenced pianist comes from a very musical & artistic family. Scarlett has been playing piano since the age of 4. But it was at the age of 13 that she really took to songwriting with grunge and alternative rock guitar sounds–beginning her performing career at the age of 16 as a solo acoustic guitarist and vocalist. Thereafter, she went on to play some of her previous and new works in a 3-piece grunge rock band called Autonomy.
Guitar, grunge, and heavy metal have paved the songwriting foundations for Scarlett and in 2002, she returned to approach the piano creatively to soon discover it was her strongest and most cathartic songwriting instrument. The melding of her folk upbringing, heavy aggressive guitar influences from her teenage years, and classical, jazz, and boogie woogie piano education, lead Scarlett to develop a an unconventional and original approach to the piano and produce a strong body of work that truly reinvents the concept of traditional piano music.
“Piano Power” could be an easy way to describe her original style of combining rhythmically complex neo-classical cyclical treble right-hand phrases, with heavy power chords and octaves in the bass, emulating the sounds of a heavy rock guitar.
The plethora of unusual minor keys and dissonance used is enough to keep a knowledgeable music theorist on their toes. Aggression is not usually a synonym that springs to mind with the piano, but with Scarlett’s thirst for justice and social commentary in her lyrical content, she answers the long debated question of whether the piano is actually a percussive instrument–and it’s a resounding Yes.
Cook stands out with heavy rhythmic pieces like New Victim, her 2016 single User, the aggressively lyrical driven Sick of It, and her instrumental piece The Prophet–which won the Flinders University Art Prize in 2003. Her 2012 EP Songbird exemplifies her softer, introspective side with melancholic, emotionally provoking poetry and melodies, and ends with a hauntingly gentle cinematic instrumental piano cello piece, A Pause for Lament.
Scarlett Cook was previously signed to From The Depths Record Label in PA, but has since moved to Berlin, and is looking for a more local label to help visualize her artistic vision.
Latest Work
Requiem for the Earth is a bold and immersive record that transcends genres. It’s a soul-baring opus filled with gothic textures, powerful piano, sweeping strings, and visceral vocals.
In 2023, Scarlett released her debut full-length album entitled “Requiem for the Earth”–it's a bold and immersive record that transcends genres. The album is a soul-baring opus filled with gothic textures, powerful piano, sweeping strings, and visceral vocals.
Her second single off the album, Predator, is some of her finest, most original work. Heavy, aggressive, swirling, and filled with percussive piano. Raw, blunt, spine-tingling topic and delivery in the vocals. She hits all the issues of the ‘Me Too’ movement head-on and does not leave a beat to do it meekly.
Scarlett is now based in Berlin and working on a new release set to come out this summer. It will be in alignment with her more ethereal, mournful, melancholic pieces and will be accompanied by alternative cellist, Dalai Cellai (Formerly of The Ocean Collective).

“A genre breaking artist” - PBS Radio
"An album release from Scarlett Cook redefines alternative music by combining elements of classical, grunge, theatrical
approaches, and an emotionally driven underbelly... The blending of classical music, baroque, alternative pop, heavy rock, and
soul all make for something that leaves a massive impact."
With her debut album "Requiem For The Earth", Scarlett Cook succeeds in doing just that: creating a musical memorial that points to the vulnerability of our planet with emotional depth, compositional brilliance and a theatrical-dark aesthetic.
