EP Review: Eayondig - “Ivory Eye”

Eayondig originally started as a one-man black metal project by Wes Tucker, before he decided to collaborate with other musicians to bring the debut EP Ivory Eye to life.
The 3-track EP starts off with This Radiant Darkness which wastes no time—exploding directly into speeding double bass drums, tremolo-picking, and raw, traditional black metal screams. Harsh vocals and thumping bass lines take the forefront of the mix whole distant melodic pianos and rapid guitar leads create the backbone of the song’s atmosphere. Eayondig soon introduces brutally low growls as tempos slow slightly before the drums speed into impossibly fast racing grooves.
Clocking in at 7 and a half minutes, This Radiant Darkness is filled with intensity and wildly fast pacing that keeps the song thrashing along. After an atmospheric bridge with clean guitar and bouning reverb, the song bursts into an epic finale with bright guitar chords, reintroduced vocals, before turning darker and heavier as the song slowly fades.
Track 2, Voidborn booms into action with dramatic drum fills before sliding into action with slamming beats, explosive bass thumps, and Eayondig’s distant, raw vocals that cement the black metal sound. Guitar leads soar above the mix as ominous melodies conquer the soundscape, creating a varied sound that blends destruction and melody.
The final song, Dead Moon Ritual starts with dark strings and an evil classical piano melody that builds anticipation as distant bells toll before Eayondig slingshots into action with the thrashing black metal onslaught that we’ve come to expect. Aggressive leads are contrasted by melodies in the background, forming a powerful juxtaposition of sound that is enticing. While the EP’s mixing is a little rough around the edges, it is characteristic of black metal and helps to capture the raw emotion and explosive dynamics of Eayondig’s music. After an ambient bridge with trembling strings, intense piano, and ominous orchestral elements, Dead Moon Ritual jumps into a final ambush of metal—putting everything on display.
Melding orchestral and symphonic elements with the raw emotion and brutality, Eayondig’s debut EP Ivory Eye is available now on all platforms.
