Album Review: Flowers of Juno | The Metalverse.net

Gothic rock act Flowers for Juno released their latest album on July 25th, 2025. The LP starts off with a 30-second intro track, Open Stitch, which begins with an ominous distorted voice that states when it comes to weaving tales I'm like a demon with a tapestry needle is a compilation album of the bands demos from 2023 to early 2025.

Physical Culture starts off with hard-hitting guitar chords, bright synths, and lofi filtered vocals, creating a classic gothic sound. Flowers for Juno quickly showcase an emphasis on instrumental melodies as a hard rock sound is blended with gothic and synth-pop elements.

Next up is It's Not My Fault - This Won't Get On The Radio Mix which kicks in with gentle pads and powerful guitar leads backed by dynamic rythym guitar and grooving drums. Heavily distorted vocals create a bouncing, experimental sound that stays non-traditional while synthwave instrumentals and rocking guitar melodies fill in the soundscape. In an ambient bridge, It's Not My Fault utilizes eerie strings and electronic beats before jumping into a final chorus.

Without Love starts with melancholy strings and emphasized vocals that use an unorthodox creaking style before transitioning into a build-up with soaring clean vocals and powerfully melodic guitar chords. Flowers for Juno do a great job of creating a specific gothic atmosphere through the use of lofi filtered vocals that have a distant or distorted effect on them–giving an old-school feel to the tracks.

Just Like Honey starts with standalone drums before trippy, reverberating vocals and drawn-out guitar chords join the mix, creating a sound that is somewhere in between gothic and psychedelic. One the song kicks in with celestial synths, the gothic influences are brought to the forefront with a '90s summer night-time vibe.

My Funny Valentine starts with trap beats, low piano notes, and gentle vocals as the song slowly builds, adding more instruments to the atmosphere before suddenly flinging electric guitar, full drum beats, and an overall more upbeat sound into the fray.

The next song Gymnopedie No.1 is a cover of the classic piano composition by Erik Satie. The version by Flowers of Juno adds a lofi tape filter and wobbling piano tone to the track, creating a sound that sits just between lofi and weirdcore genres. The original song has a slightly dark vibe to it, but Flower of Juno's takes on the track takes it further, creating a mildly unsettling and eerie spin on a classical piano piece.

Continuing the ominous sound of the previous track It's Not My Fault - Arbitrary Cash-In Remix starts with a dark, pulsating synth as eccentric, isolated deep singing vocals create an uncanny atmosphere before an instrumental outro. This track feels like a fever dream and does tend to get a little bit repetitive over the track's 4 and a half minutes, but it certainly captures a specific, off-putting mood.

Closed Stitch is the 30-second outro track that fades out the album with the same style as Open Stitch, ending the album on the same note as it started.

Overall, Flowers For Juno creates a sound that blends elements of hard rock with lofi, gothic elements, synthwave, and even psychedelic/experimental sounds. You can stream when it comes to weaving tales I'm like a demon with a tapestry needle out on all platforms now.
