Song Review: Cold Lake - “Black Is Back”

Swedish producer Ronny Svanströmer created the solo project Cold Lake in 2024, and just released his newest single Black Is Back following his debut track Brothers.

Black Is Back starts off with an intro that sets the listener into the midst of military warfare as roaring helicopters and distorted radio channels—Cold Lake quickly creates a strong soundscape that transports you into modern day battle with an in-depth atmosphere.

The song kicks in with classic heavy metal action as the song introduced valiant guitar riffs, fierce vocals filled with gusto, and slamming drum grooves. Cold Lake creates a sound that blends an old-school heavy metal sound with modern metal, forming a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh.

Black Is Back is hard-hitting instrumentally while scream-singing vocals add a blend of ferocity and melody to the track that keeps things interesting. Fans of classic metal, heavy metal, and acts like Metallica will enjoy Cold Lake’s sound.
