Song Review: The Tirith "The Slide"
Progressive Rock outfit, The Tirith released their single "The Slide" leading towards their full album titled "Quetzalcoatl" coming on July 3rd.
The song starts with a rising synth that instantly builds a cinematic vibe as clangy guitar strumming is thrown into the fray. As the song builds, deep bass and bright organs are introduced, and a distant police siren can be heard. The Tirith's experimental and progressive influences are instantly recognizable as the band crafts a massive atmosphere filled with synth elements, but underlying is a nostalgic, 70s/80s classic rock vibe—which, as it turns out, is actually when the band started, before returning in 2010 after a 3-decade hiatus.
The track and upcoming album overall delves into themes of ancient history, exploring storytelling and mysticism dating back thousands of years ago. With a wide range of influences across rock, folk, jazz, country, progressive music and much more, The Tirith create a unique sound that feels distinctly new, while paying homage to what many would consider the golden age of music.
"The Slide" strikes an interesting balance of sound, reminding me of a modern Beatles-gone-progressive-rock sound that feels exciting. You can stream "The Slide" available now.
