Song Review: Departure From Hell "Dead Inside"
German metal quartet, Departure From Hell have just released their fully self-produced single "Dead Inside". Following lineup changes, this is the band's first release with new vocalist Damien Trick.
The track begins with slamming drums and blistering distorted guitar riffs that remind of classic heavy metal. Soon chunky chugging and explosively low screams introduce a groovy but brutally heavy sound that reminds of acts like Lamb of God. Vocals alternate between harsh growls and dark singing, showcasing versatility as unrelenting guitar and drums lay down the backbone for the song.
Clocking in at just over 4 minutes, heavy verses are contrasted by more melodic choruses, effectively splitting things up. After the 2nd chorus, Departure From Hell launches the listener into a ferocious breakdown filled with slowed chugging, bright guitar leads, and booming drums. Departure From Hell takes clear influene from classic heavy metal and death metal acts, creating a sound that feels modern while paying homage to all-time greats in the genre.
Overall, "Dead Inside" is a visceral track that starts heavy and keeps a fierce intensity throughout its runtime. Departure From Hell delivers an exciting sound that showcases what is to come from the band in their upcoming EP. For a self-produced release, the mix is quite good though it still has a bit of roughness around the edges that seems to complement the brutalness of the music.
You can stream "Dead Inside" on all platforms now and stay tuned for the bands new EP that is in the works!
