SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL “Grizzly” Album Review: Feat. Ronnie Radke and BABYMETAL
The Russian deathcore act returns with album "GRIZZLY" out today. See our review and rating:
Slaughter to Prevail—who topped our list as the biggest deathcore band right now—just unleashed their 4th album, GRIZZLY via Sumerian Records. Wether you found out about the extreme metal act through their music, or vocalist Alex Terrible’s larger than life social media antics (like wrestling bears, taking punches from UFC fighters, or wielding a oversized anime sword), Slaughter to Prevail has built a huge reputation since their start in 2015.
GRIZZLY features 13 tracks—6 of which were previously unreleased. Intro track Banditos starts off in typical Slaughter To Prevail fashion, bursting into unrelenting deathcore destruction with slamming riffs, impossibly low growls, and the signature drum snare that sounds like a hammer crashing into an anvil. Slaughter To Prevail is recognized for their grooving and slam type riffs that draw from old-school death metal, but with GRIZZLY the band’s sound is evolving to include orchestral elements and melodic choirs, adding catchiness behind the brutal intensity. After a creative and surprising mariachi interlude, the song bursts into a final explosive breakdown.
Alex Terrible‘s Russian heritage often finds its way into their music with tracks like Russian Grizzly In America featuring eerie Russian music before blasting off into destructive breakdowns. The band’s Russian influences and vocals are a very unique element (beyond their brand of brutality) that has helped the band stand-out and make their way to the top of the deathcore scene.
Slaughter to Prevail collaborated with Ronnie Radke (of Falling In Reverse) on track, ImDead which featured cleans from both Alex Terrible and Radke and in the bridge, Ronnie Radke delivers melodic rapping with trap beats in the background, creating one of the most memorable and unique tracks of the album.
In another massive collaboration, Song 3 features Japanese metal act BABYMETAL blending J-pop music with Slaughter To Prevail's signature sound.

Stand-out tracks include Behelit which is possibly the band's catchiest track to date, with a heavy emphasis on symphonic and orchestral melodies, Imdead which is one of the Slaughter To Prevails most unique songs, and Rodina which features singing in Russian alongside clean acoustic guitar that slowly builds into an epic deathcore-meets-power-metal ballad that is completely new for the band.
Overall GRIZZLY is an impressive release that doesn't confine Slaughter To Prevail to one sound while still delivering crushing heavy grooving deathcore that continues to keep them at the top of popularity in the genre. While some one-liners might not come across as well in English as in Russian, GRIZZLY still comes across as Slaughter To Prevail pushing their boundaries and innovating their sound in an exciting way.
You can stream GRIZZLY out on all platforms now.
